NILE: The MetalKult Interview

Nile

Nile Ithyphallic

On August 21, 2007, when South Carolina’s Nile played an Ozzfest one-off date at BB King’s, in support of their new album Ithyphallic (Nuclear Blast), we invited guitarist/vocalists Karl Sanders and Dallas Toler-Wade to stop by MetalKult’s Manhattan headquarters for an in-depth Q&A and riff lesson.

The two technical death metal shredders accepted, and, stopped by our New York offices to discuss their exotic gear, Egyptian themes and why they believe Nile’s music is more important than their image.

you know, i am sitting here reading childish backhanded comments from naysaying wanna-be’s, and really, who does that reflect poorly on? Karl & Dallas? no… it reflects poorly on the naysaying crybabies, and no one else. i have played shows with these gentlemen and have met them in a cursory way, and i can honestly say that anyone who is sliding fork tonged crap out of their pie hole about them is just jealous, and that is poison. there is not one condescending word or attitude coming from either of them. they are just two guys who enjoy what they do, nothing more, nothing less. great talent threatens some people for various reasons. and so what if Karl is big??? WTF??? you some kinda ‘everyone must be an exact clone of me’ idiot?! you forgot to razz Dallas about his hair since it wasn’t clone perfect either. insubordinate asswipe.

What a great interview! Thanks for posting this!

Nile is the best thing going in death metal today. Their musical ability and totally unpretentious air only adds to their stature. Like Karl said. It ain’t about the image, it’s about the metal!
