Gear Tour: Buzz Osbourne of the MELVINS
On October 6, 2007, when the Melvins’ fall tour with Big Business hit the Luna Lounge in Brooklyn, NY, MetalKult dropped by to spend a few minutes chatting with singer/guitarist Buzz Osbourne about his live gear setup.
In the interview that followed, the ever-opinionated and fascinating frontman opened up a range of topics including the importance of drugs, song dynamics and how the addition of the Big Business rhythm section affects the Melvins’ sound.

Beefheart with black metal? Wow…
In hindsight this sounds like Count Beetle…search for the name and see what happens
buzzo’s right, you should be trying to create music when you’re playing and he’s also right in saying that you should try and come up with something different for yourself or band.
Buzz’s amp setup flies in the face of all the commercialism marketing crap that goes on with mainstream live gear. Obsolete 70’s preamps and Carver stereo amps with mixed sized cabs! I won’t get sappy and say Buzz and Crover are “creativity role models” for down-to-earth rocking out, but they are great examples of playing by your own rules and doing it well by knowing your basics, and honestly working hard at being at least re-inventive, if not original.
saw Big Business and Melvins last thursday in SD. Blew me away. Melvins did their Houdini album in its entirety. they played a ‘pre’-set with BB and did several songs from (A) Senile Animal. it was one of the most amazing shows of the year. Now if only Fucked Up, Cursed and BB with Melvins toured in 08′ at small clubs, that’d be amazing.
buzzo wrote the music evolution and hes always right and funny
He’s wacked on coke.
wish the questions werent edited out of this interview.
..snap to attention kids! There goes the last of a dying breed (a true American role model).
