BEHEMOTH: The MetalKult Interview
On August 15, 2007, when Behemoth were in the area to play at Ozzfest’s PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, date, guitarist/singer Nergal stopped by MetalKult’s New York City headquarters for a video Q&A and riff lesson.
In the following interview, Nergal discusses his early years in Poland’s metal scene, the occult influences on his new album The Apostasyand Behemoth’s signature blackened death metal sound.

This is a really good interview, lots of interesting questions that came.
Its not the typical interview to a band member, it has more to it. Plus Nergal has such a positive attitude, he is a really down to earth guy but a possesed demon on stage.
The new album it just kills anything that came out this year or that will come out on the rest of it.
This guy is a true pioneer of the metal scene and keeps the flag flying high, finaly all those years of staying true to the gender come to light.
The Apostasy, Hail
lol, “staying true to the gender”…i agree though.
I’ve seen Behemoth yesterday in Germany. And after watching this Interview I appreciate those guys even more. Beside being fan of there music for several years, I slowly get involved into their art by attending their shows and watching such great interviews. As Yyrkoon said, it is a really good interview with great questions and detailed answers - you get really an inside to this man and his art. Thanks for the work. And thanks to the guys of Behemoth. Stay healthy and keep on rocking!
nergal to zajebisty koles .behemoth rządzi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great interview
Full of variety of questions, especially since most are not usual questions asked by MOST interviewers. Great selection of them anyway
Nergal is a great guy and it would be a great experience to just sit and talk to him for like,a few hours and just talk. He is an awesome guitarist/singer.
All Hail Behemoth !!!!!! \m/

I don’t really like the new Behemoth stuff. Last album I really enjoyed was Pandemonic Incantations. I just like Black Metal a whole lot more than Blackened Death or pure Death Metal. Honestly I can’t stand most DM these days. I listen to pretty much just Black Metal. But I’m loyal still to the old days of Behemoth and still to this day loyal to their BM aesthetic.
But I respect Nergal for all he’s done and hopefully Behemoth will continue to keep the metal flag high.
Great interview. Behemoth rules.
These guys are bad ass! I saw them for the first time 2 weeks ago in Warsaw, I did not know what to expect, I kind of thought it will be another death metal concert, I am not really a big death metal fan although I like old death albums, more like classical stuff.Anyway, the show was really cool, it was not boring, to my surprise it was even sort of a rock’n’ roll show where the crowd got involved in singing along etc. BAD ASS!! I WILL SEE THEM AGAIN!!!!!!
what can I say… great interview ! why? a simple answer for that - Nergal isn’t an ordinary guy or musician
HAIL BEHEMOTH, HAIL BEHEMOTH FANS WORLDWIDE
Infernal truth about religion and the church spreading its virus.
Finally someone who is switched on and stands up for his believes.
There cant be just one religion for everyone, because everyone has….hmm should have an own in himself.
….if religion is the right wor(L)d

It’s cool listen to somebody like Nergal talk, and his down to earth attitude and passion for what his is doing are inspiring. It made me want to for a second to actually start guitar lessons (i’m not a musician =) ) It inspires me also for another reason - I agree that there is a lot of crap and hypocrisy in church and religion, but one thing stands tall and that is the person of Jesus. Whatever anybody thinks about that, He is still changing lives today, and those who really follow Him, not the church or religion are free of that crap that Nergal is talking about. I pray he meets somebody like that, it might challenge his thinking a bit. have a nice day dudes.
behemoth is good brawa dla behemoth
I live outside Poland and BEHEMOTH is the only Polish think that I’m proud of. When I think behemoth I think “I’m proud to be polish”
I wonder if he’s a Theistic satanist, or a hedonistic satanist.
I LOVE Behemoth I Will Fight for him
man this is very well spoken. This it my type of influece
I met him yesterday after the show.
The only thing about black metal is the “True”-atmosphere.
Nergal isn’t like that at all
he is into black metal and som much more!
That’s why i really find him inpiring
nergal is very intelligent. what an inspiration. i enjoy watching every interview he does.
all respect goes to behemoth.
and long live behemoth.

it’s very funny to see that nergal is a nice and smile man. When I saw photograph of him I thought he was a dangerous satanist ! I think their two last albums are worse than the others because I prefered when their style was more black than death as in the album “satanica” which is the best !! but “demigod” is excellent too… LONG LIVE TO BEHEMOTH !!
mui pero mui wena

GREAT fucking interview. This has made me respect the band a whole lot more
