High On Fire 2007

Death Is This Communion Cover

In this three part in-the-studio series, MetalKult catches up with High On Fire at Soundhouse Studios in Seattle as they begin work on their new record, Death Is This Communion with producer Jack Endino.

The videos that follow reveal the inner workings of High On Fire, and include clips of guitarist Matt Pike talking about his history, new bassist Jeff Matz (ex-Zeke) giving a tour of his rig and drummer Dez Kensel’s previewing some of his new pummeling rhythms.

And thanks to MetalKult bro Daniel Hague, who braved the wilds of the Pacific Northwest—and High On Fire’s pummeling riffs—to capture this killer footage.

The italian band El-Thule suggested to Jeff to use a Laney Klipp…and he did it.
That’s one of the best amps ever!!!

I’m pumped for this record and the tour. Every band says their next album is even more heavy, but with High on Fire, I have a feeling it will be really heavy.

Heavy music is good hands with this band. I saw them last Novemer in my city and they slayed like no other. This band can hold their own against anybody!!!!!!

High on Fire is heavy music in its truest form. Its not 100 mph guitar riffs and drum beats that makes up most of the current bands out there who play with such chaotic arrangements that it makes it almost unlistenable. High on Fire knows how to build a song to where you get fucking goose bumps listiening to the intro build into a plodding heavy riff like in the video above. They are by far my favorite current band and I’ve been listening to metal for over 30 years. Can’t wait for the new CD.

You need to own DEATH IS THIS COMMUNION! I have it already. Can you guess how I got it? Anyway, I’ve listened to it straight through and it is their best yet. Not that I have personal reasons for saying that!
